  1. About .44 #/ square inch per foot. Every 10 feet in depth is 4.4 PSI. Or 44 PSI for every 100 feet The conversion is 1 foot X 64 lbs/cubic foot x 1 foot x 1 square foot/ 144 square inches. So if you want a depth of say 350 feet your conversion would be (350 X 64)/144 which is roughly 156 # If you used the thumb rule I gave above you'd come out with 44 PSI + 44 PSI + 44 PSI + 22 PSI which is 154 # so effectively there's no difference since pressue gages usually aren't capable of measuring within their 1% calibration error. The Density conversion is generic and depends on water temperature and salinity but it will always get you close enough. Usually the depth gage is a version of either a bourdon tube or a foxboro that is calibrated to read in PSI. Mike
  2. That didn't answer my question. How many patrols have you done on either an SSN or SSBN? Mike
  3. Really, and in your EXTENSIVE SSN or SBN experience just how many patrols have you done? Mike

Images A forum specifically for links and disucssion of images (video or still) from training/deployment/operations and wars. Discussion is spelled incorrectly Mike
  5. Being an EX USN Submariner I have done quite a bit of reading on the subject. They were noisy, weren't sound mounted, and the USN and Brits were already performing studies in Mid 1942 to counter them, By 1943 they were performing exercises against a converted Brit Boat which resembled the XXI in performance. With the DDs the USN CANCELLED they would have had plenty of escorts with the Speed Capability to handle a Type XXI. Mike
  6. The Type XXI wouldn't have won the war in the Atlantic, that's a myth. The Allies were already working on a counter, the US had plenty of DDs they CANCELLED which had a sufficient margin of speed over the Type XXI and the US could always outbuild Germany. What would have really happened was maybe 3 more months similar to Happy Time followed by more setbacks for the Type XXI. The Allies were getting THAT good at Submarine Warfare. Mike
  7. The Stalin Piano Mike
  8. Brooklynn Class CL. Fought in just about every major Naval Engagement or Bombardment on all WW2 theaters. Inflicted a LOT of damage, took a LOT of damage and some were fighting right into the 80s. Mike
  9. No, because the VII was more suited to the Atlantic War. If you read Clay Blairs Study of the Atlantic Battles you'll see the IX didn't have the succes the average VII did. Mike
  10. No it wasn't. It was in response to Reagans desire to get as many weapons platforms at seas in as short amount of time as they could. They already had more effective answers to the Kirovs. They're known as SSNs and CVNs. Mike
  11. Uh wrong. they were activated to help save air force missions and to interdict. Most of the targets they interdicted were in range of a 5 inch gun. Read Muir and Sumrall. Both very reliable sources. Also, I'm an ex Submariner. I saw the pish posh you posted about the Iowas TDS and Triple Bottom. You do know how a modern torpedo works right? Seems to me if you do you're hiding the knowledge extremely well. Mike
  12. The Iowas were not activated "So many times" to provide fire support. In Korea they were activated as a general overall activation of the Navy. Vietnam ONE was activated to prove interdiction, not classical fire support. Their last activation was mnore political in nature as part of Uncle Rons 600 ship navy. They were available platforms and were to be used as Surface Battlkegroups, NGFS was never a primary purpose of this activation. So of the three times they have been activated only once was to support NGFS, and that was a austere activation, against a country with no real navy, and used as interdiction. Check your history High Seas BB Mike
  13. In fact, Friedman discusses the Savanah hit the USN concluded a Battleship would most likely have blown up because the armor would not have allowed the magazines to flood as quickly as they did. Mike
  14. Pretty soon jameskirk13 is going to show up talking about armoured triple bottoms and Mach 6 16 inch shells Mike
  15. I've yet to see you post a full truth. What I have seen you do is post a bunch of half truths, then when challenged essentially told people they had to prove your pish posh. Mike
