I loved that book. I originally had it in paperback and eventually bought the hardcover version, which I still have.

This crossed my Facebook feed a few years ago and it's my go-to recipe for stew:

Seeing those parts laid out reminded me of a visit nearly 20 years ago to an open house held by a place that sells surplus military vehicle parts and does restorations. While I was wandering the grounds I nearly tripped over an M3 commander's cupola lying in some tall grass.

Coincidentally, I was poking around evilBay tonight and happened to come across this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-US-Tank-M-3-LEE-Chrysler-built1942-U-S-A-3029014-original-Sherman-father/114459560200?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201210111314%26meid%3D122a7262bb43415ca7b2c7f9d09bcd0f%26pid%3D101195%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D360375509393%26itm%3D114459560200%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv5PairwiseWebWithDarwoV3BBEV2b&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851

Thanks for the info!

Thank you. That makes sense. What changed so that they were removed in later models of the gun?
-
Any idea what the protrusions near the muzzle are for? The question came up on another board and I didn't know the answer.

Tank, with James Garner is cheesy, but is full of great quotes ("Did you call me a pussy communist?") and Jenilee Harrison's headlights are on throughout the movie.

I'm about halfway through this book and am liking it quite a bit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/161200010X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Most of my Pearl Harbor knowledge comes from Prange's books, though, so this one is a bit more up to date. -
Thank you for this. I just got the book a couple of days ago and am already deep into it. My main PH sources for years have been the Prange books so it's nice to read something that's more updated.

The last AK I bought was a WASR in 2008. It jammed frequently and a trip to the gunsmith at the store where I bought it revealed that the piston was slightly...bent. After repair or replacement (I forget which was done) it runs great. -
Agreed. The muzzle end resembles an M85 flash hider, but a close inspection reveals an M2HB barrel handle as well as what appears to be a hooded front sight on top.

I'd love a 1/16 M60 or M60A3 at a reasonable price.
