This is a truly sad fall of what was once the standard of the aircraft industry. I’ve gotten to know several airline pilots over the years and one of their sayings was ‘If it ain’t Boeing I ain’t going.’

Ethiopia bans import of gasoline powered vehicles I'm sure Ethiopia has a strong electrical grid with total coverage of the country...... https://www.thecooldown.com/green-business/ethiopia-ban-on-gas-vehicles/ -
Somewhat strange post. Guy (yes, I am assuming gender) joined 20 years ago, this is his second post. The incident did happen. And where is Luke Yaxley?

I could almost throw a rock on Lansdale…..😀 I’m retired….let me know when and where

I was on the phone with my son when it happened, we’re in SE Pennsylvania about 35 miles North of Philadelphia. We are about 4 miles apart and there is an active rock quarry between us. When it first started I thought it was the quarry setting off a much larger blast than normal (I usually don’t notice) but it went on for 8-10 seconds and it rattled the windows in the house - a 200 year old farmhouse with old wooden windows that a good wind can rattle. Noise wise it was like very heavy distant thunder. The dogs did not like it.

The Oyster Bunny did it.

I’m getting old and sometimes my memory is not as good as it should be but I think Trump has not been President for a little over 3 years and the President is now a guy named Joe Biden and has been for a little over 3 years. If I’m correct on this how can an artillery ammunition shortage be Trump’s faulty?

I’m going with all 3

I was at the Valiant Air Command Museum, Titusville FLA yesterday, $20 admission fee, worth the money just to tour the B-52 cockpit. It is incredibly cramped. -

Educate me on Starlink vs cable for internet
LT Ducky replied to LT Ducky's topic in Broken Computers
Thanks for the replies, looks like I’m going to be doing some in-depth research. -
About a year ago I enquired about ditching the television side of my cable service and just getting internet only. I did cancel the TV and now only have internet service (through a router). My niece lives with me and games and streams - and has problems with upload/download on occasion. Her research has led her to recommending Starlink. I’m not convinced that is the way to go. I presently have Xfinity/Comcast.

I’ve only watched the clips shown in this thread but I have to add some comments from a pilot’s perspective as well as one who has participated in air-to-ground and aircraft intercom communications. Obviously I’ve never flown a B-17 but with the exception of the ‘exotic’ computer interface aircraft (F-117 and B-2 for example) they are all subject to the basic laws of aerodynamics. The B-17 shown on the ‘crabbed’ approach to Greenland shows the rudder fully deflected to the left - in reality it would have been in the neutral position. The touchdown would have been left wing down (almost dragging on the ground) with full right rudder, landing on the left wheel. The CGI shows a basically wings level at touchdown which would have resulted in a rapid departure from the runway into the wind. During this approach the pilot is shown adding power to the left engines; with properly applied right rudder he would have quickly slewed right. I’ve already commented on the engine rotations in the crash scene. I’ve never been in combat during aircrew and radio communications but have been involved in some interesting conversations that were adrenaline-enhanced and one thing was always present - discipline. Pilots and aircrew pride themselves on maintaining commo discipline, sometimes right up to the moment of impact….. (the last transmission is usually ‘Oh Shit’) This is just the rambling observations of an old man who delights in pointing out my perceived flaws in the entertainment industry.

Wow! 3 posts in a row that aren’t links to a video -
#1 was shown as feathered but still rotating slowly in the wrong direction. I’m not an expert on feathered engines but I’ve never seen film of a feathered engine rotating - the whole reason for feathering an engine is to stop the rotation. As for the engines turning in the wrong direction - perhaps the animators were British; most British WWII aircraft engines rotated clockwise when viewed from the front……..
-
Not impressed with the dialogue especially the intercom chatter. And at the end of the clip it shows the #2 engine winding down turning in a clockwise direction when viewed from the front……..
-
I have no idea who this is.

This example has nothing to do with holiday spending but is rather interesting. Due to several circumstances my now 22 year old niece moved in with me when COVID closed down her college. She insisted on paying rent so I told her she had to pay the weekly grocery bill. In April of 2020 that was $45-65 a week. She still lives with me and now the bill runs $100-140 a week……..

motor vehicle explosion on bridge connecting US and Canada
LT Ducky replied to Ivanhoe's topic in Free Fire Zone
Very interesting turn of events. When I first heard of this on local talk radio Wednesday afternoon everyone was all in on it being Middle East terrorism-related to the point that the FBI was issuing statements and the Governor of New York rushing to the scene. And now it seems that it was a drug-addled multi-millionaire in a high dollar, high performance vehicle avoiding what should have been a routine car search. Strange times we live in…. -

I’m curious as to why there seems to be no more information on this incident.
