So Kit Kat The Last Supper?

Nestle and other confectioners make plenty of Easter themed chocolate, including Kit Kat, already and have forever.  Easter eggs, Easter bunnies etc.  Same for Christmas including Advent Calendars.

Nestlé starts promoting Islamisation of Canada with Kit Kat Iftar bar.

Recognizing a market niche is promoting Islamisation?  Okey dokey.

  3. It seems to me Putin is saying that if UkrAF actually operates from Nato airfields, those airfields would be fair game - and in that case, he'd be right.  I don't think he necessarily means Ukrainian jets in transit woud make an airfield a target.

Basically it follows the model of the first world war, where the initial story in Belgium was that the Germans were raping nuns and pitchforking babies. It became so over the top, everyone became cynical and believed there was no atrocities at all. And then when the war was long over, the truth came out, that the Germans had lined up Belgian civilians and shot them  as French terrorists (Yes, im aware its franc tirreur, but im too lazy to look up the correct spelling). Which was surely bad enough. Even the much reported fabricated myth about the crucified Canadian soldier seems to have just enough truth to it that historians have tentatively put a name to him.

TBH, I wonder whats going to happen to all the stories about the evil joo's (tm) making stuff up, if some of those hostages come out 6 months pregnant. TBH, at the moment, Id be just glad to see them come out at all, because its clear the Israeli Government doesnt really give a stuff about them at this point. They want a victory, and seem to want to pay any price to get one.

And in the next war, there were lurid tales of Germans massacring Jews tens of thousands at a time, making soap from their bodies, working people to death in concentration camps, shooting hostages and destroying whole towns.  They turned out to be true.

Dave, I've not been following the chaos in Gaza; are those hundreds of murdered civilians and were sexually assaulted...were Hamas the perps or are we talking about the IDF? I'm only trying to be clear, given the MSM is always on the look out for Israeli War Crimes and they report them with great enthusiasm, whether verifiable or not.

Hamas and apparently some Gazan civilians.

Of course, stuff like this really muddies the water on the atrocities that did take place. At least it’s being debunked by the Israelis themselves, but the flip side is that it gives more ammunition to those who believe no atrocities to civilians actually took place

Some of the more lurid stories were debunked by Israeli officials very quickly and retractions were made in Western media.  But, no doubt, there have been claims that are not substantiate.

What has been substantiated, though, is that hundreds of civilians were flat out murdered.  That some victims were sexually assaulted.  That victims were of all ages including elderly and young children.  I'm not giving Han=mas a pass just because they only shot hundreds of innocent people without regard for age rather than beheaded babies.

Given that the WHO is part of the UN, an organization proven to have Jews On The Brain, reports of hunger and famine should not be taken seriously.

And to beat the proverbial dead horse, civilians in Gaza voted Hamas in and did nothing while Hamas prepared for the October 7th atrocities. Some of those civilians gang-raped captives, and apparently some raped corpses.

I just did a Google image search using the search terms "gaza hunger OR starvation" and I don't see any skeletal children or adults. If you want to see what real hunger looks like, "india hunger OR starvation" will produce visuals.

He didn't actually say they were starving, just that they were all in need of food aid.  It seems to me that they're getting it.

Heck, how about a WWII destroyer escort? Might need some upgrades though:

Fine if the enemy is using Type VII U-boats.  If they're Type XXIs, it's considerably less effective.  If they're even as modern as Oberons, you're SOL.  Also no defences against missile attack.  For the sensors and systems to be as effective now as those ships were against a 1940s threat, you'll nee at least two or three times the tonnage.

But what was Boeing doing in the same period? Developing the ability to hang different engine configurations on its aircraft, so they wouldnt be beset by any such issues. This paid off spectacularly with the 747, and latterly with the 737. Ultimately Rolls Royce was developing a new engine that turned out to be highly successful. But basing an aircraft launch on a single engine was deeply unwise, and everyone paid for it. it didnt have to be that way.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_RB211#RB211-524_series

That was the old Boeing, run by engineers.  Since, McDonnell Douglas took it over is run by MBAs and them spending money on foresight seems unlikely.

What @Ssnake said. Perun has been claiming that criticism of Palestinians is antisemitism and that criticism of Jews cannot be labeled antisemitism because the word refers to Palestinians as well or something like that, which honestly is just him digging his own hole.

My reference to anti-Palestinian rhetoric as antisemitism is just me mocking Perun.

    Pretty much as I figured.

Claiming that Palestinians cannot be racist, fascist, and kleptocratic means they have no agency, which in itself is a racist claim you anti-Palestinian antisemite.

I'm sure that there are, in fact, Palestinian individuals who are none of those things.  They tend to keep their mouths shut, at least in Palestinian governed areas, lest they be murdered by their neighbours or by one of the rival governments.

I'm not sure where "anti-semite" comes in unless saying Israel is a social democratic state is anti-Semitic.  If it's because Palestinians speak a Semitic language and the term should apply to them, that's demanding a logic and consistency to the English language that does not exist.  "Anti-Semitic" in English means anti-Jewish.

The only anecdote I can offer about the No19 wireless set is that my father was in the early 1960's in the TA, specifically the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars. They were still using No19 sets in their vehicles, Dingo's, Ferrets and Austin Champs I gather. He told me if you parked under a telephone line, you could pick up telephone calls with them, which presumably caused much meriment. I dont know if that says more about how poorly British phonelines were shielded, or if this in any way unusual, but I thought it an amusing detail.

When was it Canadians stopped procuring British radio kit, the 1970's? I dont think you ever got Clansman?

I think the Regular Force re-equipped with US kit like the AN/VRC 46 and VRC 125/PRC 25 in the sixties.  Reserves had Larkspur until the mid to late seventies.  Incidentally, I never heard the term "Larkspur" until the internet era.

  13. It turns out to be harder than one might think, especially given the pace of TV shooting.  There's no lack of footage showing food and drink and similar continuity errors - like length of smoked cigarettes - and other mistakes like Starbucks cups left in shot in Game of Thrones.

I think there's more malice in it than that. At the Oscars some were seen with red hand pins. This is the "ceasefireNow" crowd's main symbol and they've used it in protests everywhere including in congress itself.

To anyone with just some baseline knowledge about Israel-Palestine, this immediately reminds of this iconic photo from the early days of the intifada:

    6850336_0_0_640_360_0_large.jpg

It is, in fact, it is one of the, if not the most iconic photos in this topic.

In 2000, two Israelis accidentally made a wrong turn and reached a Palestinian city Ramallah. They were arrested by the PA for interrogation. Upon arriving at the police building, masses of Palestinians entered and butchered them. Much of the documentation from this incident was censored by the Palestinians but in one famous photo which I will not show here but which you can find online (search 2000 Ramallah lynching) you can see people parading a heart and intestines on the street.

Some could say it may be just an innocent coincidence but this is an ongoing issue and the organizers are by now well aware of this connection. The continued use of this symbology indicates this is intentional, therefore any person who sympathizes with that movement - does not want a ceasefire, but to brutally murder Jews.

Oh there's also the "anti-imperialist" crowd who are anti-West at heart and will indulge in all sorts of cognitive dissonance to condemn Israeli social democrats rather than  racist, fascist, and kleptocratic Palestinians.  And lots of good old fashioned anti-Semites.  They're just not all the opposition the the current Israeli actions out there.

  15. There may have been some Black Africans amongst the Portuguese traders allowed into the country.  Single digit numbers if any and probably in subservient roles.  Their TV counterpart characters would be lucky to get any lines at all let alone a notable role.

I suppose the actors are encouraged not to drink anyting at all because it makes editing harder (continuity errors if the beverage level goes up between cuts); same with, most egregious case, nobody actually eating anything in the Big Bang Theory (all the more irritating because every episode had at least two scenes with the cast sitting down for lunch, or for dinner).

Not sure if the actors are to blame; suspect it's the producers driving this for post-production cost cutting reasons.

Try eating or drinking a realistic amount of food and drink in a scene - and taking a dozen takes of it.  That and continuity explains a lot.  Not to mention food that was edible at the beginning if the day when filming started might be much less so eight or twelve hours later under movie lights.

Bu the isn't talking about the US Government. He is talking about an Ex President inviting a Dictator to his ranch, and talking everyone how he wants to be like him.

If Obama had visited Castro or Maduro and said 'This is the way it's going to be' would you have been so sodding apathetic? Somehow I seriously doubt it.

Well it's on your heads. I told you he was going to be a fucking disaster in 2016. Does anyone give me credit for observing the bleeding obvious? Of course not.

By and large - he wasn't a disaster in 2016.  The disaster was when CHina carelessly let Covid out of the lab and the Democrats used it as an excuse to loosen  voting rules instead of supporting better election security.

So they thought the popular decision is withdrawal from Afghanistan (full) and rest of middle east (partial) because "end the endless wars", intervening in Gaza is popular? That's gross misinterpretation of the subject. The "ceasefire now" crowd wants the restoration of Hamas, and the US does not advance that with this move.

That's not how this relationship works. Israel is a frontier nation. It pays disproportionately to defend itself against threats partially created by its allies that aren't risking themselves, and it also pays with its own people's lives. What would I rather have? Those 1,400 brutally raped and massacred to now be alive and well, or $3.3 billion for 10 years? Definitely not the aid, thank you very much.

The US de facto has a lot of weight in every Israeli security decision. Its peacenik approach has de facto deteriorated Israel's security situation as a result. Outsiders just don't see the extent of this.

So yeah Israel already gives more than the aid's worth back, even when not including any security decisions into the equation.

Israelis overwhelmingly oppose US troops on the ground. This is primarily seen as a threat to US-Israel relations because it creates the possibility of US servicemen killed during Israeli operations. US-Israel cooperation isn't that well exercised as, say, NATO. As soon as that happens American MAGAts and incels will be screeching at the top of their lungs.

Though the tankies weren't quite screeching genocide when a US airdrop killed 5 Palestinians but that's because the target audience is different.

Most of the ceasefire now crowd want the fighting to stop and that there be no restrictions, real or perceived, on humanitarian aid.  Most of them know little and care less about the issues and implications, they just think all war is bad and if Israel stopped fighting, there would be no war.  A few, who have put some thought into this, just think the war is disproportionate (30,000 fatalities to 1200) and counter-productive as Israel won't win the hearts and minds of Gazans by killing a bunch of them.

As for me, I do not believe that if Israel stops, the war stops.  At best, it would return to rocket attacks and cross-border raids.  Nor do I think Israel can seize the Gazans' hearts and minds before having complete control of the territory - and probably not even then.

Maybe. But the real losers will have been the people of Ukraine. Honestly, I just can't wait for the war to be over because even a bad peace (within certain limits, of course) will be better than the killing continuing.

They lose either way.  They either lose lives fighting to stay free or they become slaves and murder victims.  Bakhmut or Bucha.
